"MUD BUGs™" This is an actual fossil- a Trilobite. They thrived in ancient seas long before the dinosaurs roamed. They’re the oldest completely extinct group of primitive aquatic Arthropods. No close relatives in present day fauna. They were able to adapt to extremely different environments and are found at every geological latitude. They usually inhabited shallow waters and moved over the seabed, digging themselves into the mud or sand. Hence the name “MUD BUGs™”. Size- about ¼ inch to almost 2 feet in length. They had the capacity to roll up in a ball. This is how they protected their vulnerable belly’s (ventral side) against enemies. Some were blind and others had large eyes consisting of over 3000 lenses. Lobsters and crabs are distant relatives. They shed their exoskeleton as they grew.
